• Spontaneous polarization is exhibited by ferroelectric materials that are also dielectric materials.

• They are polarized even in the absence of electric field.

• They show hysteresis effect

• The ferroelectric materials have very high dielectric constants, roughly three times greater than that of ordinary dielectric.

Application

• They also possess domain structures.

• In ferroelectric materials, the thickness of the domain wall is of the order of few lattice constants, but in ferromagnetic materials, the thickness is of the order of few hundred of lattice constants.

• All ferroelectric materials are insulators, while ferromagnetic materials are conductors.

• All Piezoelectric materials are not ferroelectric materials but all ferroelectric materials are Piezoelectric materials.
